ELONROAD invents the charging of tomorrow’s electric vehicles in Eastern France
Since September 2023, Elonroad and Vinci have been testing, on the A10 motorway in the Aube, a system that allows electric vehicles to charge while driving. This revolution in electric mobility is possible thanks to the installation of a rail directly on the road.
Electric mobility in motion
Recharge your electric vehicle without stopping? This is what the Swedish start-up Elonroad offers. In partnership with Vinci and with the support of Europe and France, Elonroad has installed a rail on the A10 motorway at the Lighthouse in Sainte-Savine to test this innovative technology.
The advantages of the Elonroad system are many: being able to drive an electric car without worrying about autonomy, and using cheaper and lighter vehicles because they use few batteries. All this with one objective: to decarbonise mobility by accelerating the electric transition, including for road transport.
The A10 pilot site will be able to demonstrate the operation of the automatic dynamic charging of an electric truck at more than 350 kW at 90 km/h.
An innovation in electric mobility made in Eastern France
The second generation of electric mobility is developing in Eastern France and more particularly in Aube. While the headquarters of the French subsidiary of Elonroad is already located in Troyes (Aube), it will soon also be a production plant in Eastern France: “We are looking for a site in Troyes for our production plant for our systems with a target of 7 people at start-up and 50 by 2025, and even up to 500 industrial jobs by 2027,” said Valéry Prunier, President of ELONROAD FRANCE, in September 2023.
In order to enable rapid deployment, the vast majority of the components used will be manufactured in France. And with partners like Vinci, that deployment will be quick. Once the tests have been carried out, it is planned to equip 5,000 km of motorways by 2030 and 9,000 km by 2035.
Winner of Plan France 2030, Elonroad is expected to market kits for electric vehicles mid-2024 as well as rails for roads, but also for car parks.
