Inauguration of the largest hydrogen station from Eastern France in Strasbourg
R-GDS inaugurated the largest hydrogen refuelling station from Eastern France in Strasbourg on 12 March.

“In 10 years, the fleet of vehicles affected [by this new fuel] has increased by a factor of 100,” says David Colomar, President of the start-up ‘EIFHYTEC, a partner of R-GDS. Aware of the challenges associated with this sustainable and innovative energy source, the Grand Est Region (Eastern France) has launched a 2020-2030 strategy. In particular, it is committed to developing low-carbon heavy-duty mobility.
It is against this background that R-GDS inaugurated in Strasbourg the largest hydrogen refueling station for light-duty vehicles, commercial vehicles and heavy-duty trucks. Now in the European Parliament fleet, this station is capable of delivering 700kg of hydrogen per day. This corresponds to the daily recharging of 30 buses, 70 commercial vehicles or 150 light vehicles. A high-speed terminal designed to accommodate buses and trucks.
This is the 47th station inaugurated in Europe as part of the Clean Hydrogen Partnership.
Towards a decarbonized hydrogen station
Launched in 2019, this project aims to deliver decarbonised hydrogen. Benoît Rinn, project manager at R-GDS, explained: “We are also studying the production of green hydrogen from electrolysis, provided that the electrolyzer is fed with renewable electricity. ”
In the meantime, R-GDS is already working with local companies on the next steps of the project. The start-up Efythec is due to deliver a thermochemical hydrogen compressor in April 2024. This equipment is produced in the Far East, in Haguenau (Bas-Rhin).
