MARS plant in Haguenau invests €47 million in expansion
At the 7th Choose France summit in May 2024, Mars Wrigley France announced a new investment plan for France. Detailed in September, this investment plan dedicates €47 million to the development of one of its four plants in Alsace (Eastern France).
MARS INVESTS IN REDUCING CARBON FOOTPRINT…
On the eve of its 50th anniversary, the Mars site in Haguenau will benefit from an investment of 47 million euros between now and the end of 2024.
The aim? To further increase production capacity and accelerate the site’s ecological transition. Between now and 2027, Mars Wrigley France – the Group’s French subsidiary – will modernize its production line and construct two new buildings. Investments at the Haguenau plant should enable Mars to reduce its electricity consumption by 16% and its water consumption by 33%.
Thanks to these investments, the Haguenau plant will also gain in expertise. “We’ll be able to control the M&M’s production chain from start to finish,” explains Christophe Mathey, plant manager.
…OF EUROPE’S OLDEST INDUSTRIAL SITE
Established in 1974, the Haguenau site is Mars’ oldest industrial site in Europe. With an annual capacity of 72,000 tonnes, it has been Europe’s main M&M’s production plant since the 1990s.
The plant’s proximity to the Rhine and to all the transport networks of Eastern France means that it can serve the whole continent. Almost 70% of its annual production is exported within Europe. Raw materials could soon be transported on the Rhine too. “We’re also looking into the possibility of transporting raw materials by river barge from Rotterdam to Strasbourg,” says Christophe Mathey.
