American Tronox plant in Thann (Haut-Rhin) wins France 2030 call for projects for decarbonization
Considered to be the oldest chemical plant in the world, the Tronox plant in Thann (Haut-Rhin), which has been operating since 1808, is a winner of the “Industrie Zéro Fossile – DECARB FLASH” call for projects under the France 2030 investment plan.
A call for projects to rapidly decarbonize industrial processes
In August 2023, Tronox was selected for the “Industrie Zéro Fossile – DECARB FLASH” call for projects under the France 2030 investment plan. It was awarded a budget of 400,000 euros to acquire equipment to decarbonize its activities.
The titanium dioxides developed by Tronox have crucial properties for improving air quality. They have already enabled the conversion of tens of millions of tonnes of atmospheric pollutant emissions. In addition, this public support should enable the rapid launch of new initiatives to decarbonize certain industrial processes.
American Tronox invests in decarbonization
A leader in the design and manufacture of titanium dioxide for environmental applications, with over 200 years’ experience, sales of 139 million euros and 250 employees, the Tronox plant in Thann is continuing to grow, without forgetting to decarbonize.
In fact, the American company has already implemented several actions to decarbonize its business. In 2021, the plant has invested in a filtration unit for the sulfuric acid effluents generated by its production. And in 2022, Tronox has sealed a partnership with French start-up Geolith to produce lithium titanate for it, from products it routinely uses in its other industrial processes. The aim is to move towards more environmentally-friendly lithium produced in Eastern France.
